On the Rag and Other Rants
I find it very interesting how hardcore against the term "feminist" people are. YES, there are some TERRIBLE feminists out there, but hey … there are terrible Christians and yet people still use that title with glee. So what is it about FEMINIST that makes women so afraid to be labeled as?
When I was 17, I worked for a grocery store here in Wichita that is no more. I wanted desperately to get out of the check stand, and a position opened up back in the dairy department. The initial supervisor for the dairy department told me he wouldn't recommend me because I'm a girl and there's a lot of lifting involved. I went to the supervisors and they had nothing to add. So I then went to the highest of the people I could go to and inquired as to why being a girl had anything to do with anything. I pointed out that there's a lot of heavy lifting in the produce department, and yet a woman was working in that department just fine. I was informed that because I wasn't, basically, a tall heavier built female [at the time I was 5'2 and about 130-140lbs], I was too weak to work back in the produce. Plus, I was such a sweeeeet girl, and they needed people up front. Meanwhile, they pulled one of the male cashiers and put him in the dairy department, and I got to stand there all sweet and cute and ask if they wanted paper or plastic. They didn't even give me a chance. And YES, maybe I wouldn't have been able to cut it, but I should have been given the opportunity to try it and see that I couldn't lift 4 gallons of milk at a time.
A few years after that, I worked for QT and realized I hated heavy lifting and plan to never do it again. But that's because I'm lazy, not because I'm a girl and too weak to do more than move a can over a scanner. While employed at QT, I went from a bubbly, people loving person to a grumpy people hating person very quickly. You have no idea how many men touched me while I walked around, and how many supervisors I had mock my irritation with it. How many times I was told to smile because it can't be that bad, but honestly I was sexually assaulted in this time and then constantly being touched by men and mocked by them that YES IT REALLY WAS THAT BAD, JEFFREY, SO GO FUCK OFF BEFORE I PEE IN YOUR FUCKING COFFEE. I got good at cleaning up vomit and drugs though, so there's something awesome? I don't know.
At my current job I handle issues over the phone, and I've had both males and females ask to speak to a male instead of me. I, of course, do not acquiesce to this request because it's ridiculous. I've had men reject me for whatever reason, saying they just wanted to be friends, and yet had guys cry about the friendzone so fiercely I thought they'd be able to give me a zip code to the place. I've watched talentless males get decent roles in plays written about men by men with the most arbitrary of plot lines involving women, and yet we have to stab each other to get cast, and it's not even a good one. Because there are more roles for men than there are for women.
I've had a man tell me that, because men pay for dates, we should get paid less then men, and said that his mother agrees with him. I've had two men tell me that I'm a waste of a woman because I don't want to have kids.
I'm only 35 years old, so it's not like I'm talking about the 50's here. We need feminism. But we also need it for men. Because why should a man be told he can't be a nurse or a teacher because that's women's work, when it's what he really wants to do? Why can't a guy wear eyeliner if he wants to, or a little concealer to cover up his acne so people stop calling him pizza face?
MAN UP HAVE SEX WITH AS MANY WOMEN AS YOU CAN CONSENT IS OPTIONAL DON'T BE GAY YOU'RE NOT A REAL MAN IF YOU CAN'T CHANGE A TIRE REAL MEN LIKE CURVES ONLY BOYS CHEAT HE MUST HAVE A SMALL DICK IF HE CRIES AT MOVIES MEN DON'T CRY MEN DON'T GET ABUSED MEN DON'T GET RAPED ONLY LITTLE PUNK ASS BITCHES DO
Toxic masculinity is a thing, and feminism is for everyone, it just has female in the name. Kind of how MANKIND only mentions one gender … I just want people to do better. There ARE shitty people in every group. There IS shitty feminism. There ARE cunty feminists. But if you think I'll let them ruin the name for me, you've assigned power to the wrong place.
